#ThisDay marks the end of the Budapest offensive within the Great Patriotic War.
After 108 days and nights — from 29 October 1944 — Soviet troops liberated central Hungary and its capital, Budapest.
By inflicting serious damage on the German Army Group South, the Soviets were able to prepare and conduct their final operations in Czechoslovakia, Hungary, and Austria.
