#ThisDay marks the liberation of Rostov-on-Don that had been under German occupation since the summer of 1942 during the Great Patriotic War
The storming of Rostov lasted six days. In the course of fierce and bloody battles the units of the 28th Army together with the units of the 51st Army approaching the city fully liberated it.
Rostov-on-Don was granted the honorary title of the City of Military Glory by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation dated 5 May 2008 for courage, firmness, and heroism, shown by the defenders of the city in the fight for freedom and independence of the Fatherland.
