The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue the special military operation.

 In Kupyansk direction, artillery of the Western Military District has launched strikes at the units from 14th, 92nd mechanised brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), and 93rd Territorial Defence Brigade near Dvurechnaya, Timkovka, Ivanovka (Kharkov region), and Novosyolovskoye (Lugansk People's Republic).

 1 Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance group has been eliminated near Liman Pervy (Kharkov region).

 The enemy has lost over 50 Ukrainian personnel, 1 tank, 2 infantry fighting vehicles, and 2 pickups.

 In Krasny Liman direction, intensive action of motorised rifle units, and the strikes launched by artillery of the Central Military District at the concentrations of manpower and hardware of 71st Chaser, 80th and 95th airborne assault brigades of the AFU, as well as at those of 15th National Guard Regiment have resulted in the elimination of over 70 personnel, 3 armoured fighting vehicles, and 4 motor vehicles near Grigorovka, Serebryanka (Donetsk People's Republic), and to the west of Chervonaya Dibrova (Lugansk People's Republic).

 In Donetsk direction, units of the Southern Military District, supported by units of Airborne Troops, continued their offensive operations.

 Over 60 Ukrainian personnel, 1 tank, 3 armoured fighting vehicles, and 6 motor vehicles have been eliminated.

 In South Donetsk direction, artillery units of the Eastern Military District, and the Pacific Fleet's marines have neutralised the concentrations of manpower and hardware from 61st Mechanised Brigade of the AFU near Zolotaya Niva, and 108th Territorial Defence Brigade near Prechistovka (Donetsk People's Republic).

 2 AFU sabotage and reconnaissance groups have been eliminated in the area to the north of Levadnoye and Vladimirovka (Donetsk People's Republic).

 The enemy has lost up to 40 Ukrainian personnel, 2 armoured fighting vehicles, and 3 motor vehicles.

2023-01-17 13:48:48 Russian Defence Minister chairs session on building up Russian Armed Forces

Within the working visit to the Joint Group of Forces of the special military operation, the Minister of Defence of Russia has hosted a session with the deputy defence ministers, branch commanders-in-chief, and commanders on the implementation of the Russian President's decision to build up the Armed Forces to 1.5 million troops.

General of the Army Sergei Shoigu noted that all the measures were to be combined into the Comprehensive Build-Up Plan of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. In addition, they are to be harmonised with building the infrastructure for deploying troops (forces), the terms of supplying armament, military and special hardware, and materiel within the state defence order.

The Russian defence chief added: 'The President of the Russian Federation decided to build up the Armed Forces to 1.5 million troops. The provision of military security of the country, the protection of the new regions and crucial facilities of the Russian Federation can be guaranteed only by reinforcing the elements of the Armed Forces as follows:

to found two new inter-branch strategic territorial formations of the Armed Forces: Moscow and Leningrad military districts, as well as self-contained groups of forces in the new regions of the Russian Federation;

to establish an army corps in the Republic of Karelia, three motorised rifle divisions as part of the Land Forces, and two airborne assault divisions as part of the Airborne Troops;

to reorganise seven motorised rifle brigades in the Western, Central, Eastern military districts, and in the Northern Fleet into motorised rifle divisions;

to reinforce the combat element of the Navy, Aerospace Forces, and Strategic Missile Forces.

Large-scale changes of the Armed Forces’ structure, increase in their strength, amendment of military administrative structure of the Russian Federation to be introduced in 2023¬2026 will require all the deputy defence ministers, branch commanders-in-chief, commanders of military districts, the Northern Fleet, and arms to take relevant appropriate decisions.

The main emphasis is to be placed on manning troops (forces) with contracted personnel. It is also necessary to organise timely provision of units and formations with armament, military and special hardware, as well as other materiel, raise the number of training grounds in the military districts and new regions of the Russian Federation, prepare them for manoeuvres, define the training scope of cadets and students in the higher-educational institutions of the Ministry of Defence, and upscale the training scope of specialists in the training centres of the Armed Forces in accordance with heightened need of troops (forces) by increasing capacity of training centres and establishing the new ones. The whole set of measures is to be provided with relevant budget allocation’.

2023-01-17 11:30:25 Air support: Multi-purpose attack helicopters and Army Aviation fire support groups in combat action

Within the special military operation, Western MD helicopter crews continue to destroy the hardware and facilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, escort military convoys, as well as deliver personnel and military supplies. Air support is provided to the units on a daily basis.

All flights are conducted at extremely low altitudes.

Requests to support Russian mechanised infantry or tank units are sent several times per day or night shift from the front line.

The riflemen of the Army Aviation support group provide air support to the helicopters, observe objects and vehicles on the ground, and detect enemy firing positions while patrolling the area.

Servicemen often risk their own lives to help evacuate civilians from the liberated settlements located at the front line of defence, covering them while approaching and boarding helicopters.

Sergei Shoigu heard the report of Group Commander Lieutenant General Rustam Muradov on current situation and operations conducted by the group of forces, as well as the reports of the commanders of other groups of forces.

The Russian Defence Minister was also informed by formation commanders on the progress in the operations conducted in the main directions.

The Minister of Defence of Russia placed the main emphasis on organising comprehensive provision to the forces involved in the special military operation, installing fortifications, and creating conditions for safe accommodation of personnel in field environment, as well as the work of medical and logistic units.

Sergei Shoigu thanked the personnel who bravely operate in the area of the special military operation, as well as presented them with state awards for the acts of selflessness and heroism.

'You perform your service decently, you protect our Fatherland, you help those who need help, doing everything to make the day, called the Victory Day, come sooner', stated Sergei Shoigu.

Russian airspace control facilities detected an air target over the Baltic Sea that was approaching to the State border of the Russian Federation

In Kupyansk direction, Army Aviation and artillery of the Western Military District have neutralised the enemy units near Sinkovka and Berestovoye (Kharkov region).

In Krasny Liman direction, attacks launched by artillery units of the Central Military District at the concentration of manpower have resulted in the elimination of over 75 Ukrainian personnel, 3 tanks, 5 armoured fighting vehicles, and 1 pickup near Serebryanka and Terny (DPR).

In Donetsk direction, units of the Southern Military District, supported by units of Airborne Troops, continue their offensive operations.

In South Donetsk direction, units of the Eastern Military District have launched strikes at the 65th Mechanised Brigade of the AFU near Stepovoye (Zaporozhye region) and 108th Territorial Defence Brigade near Novosyolka (DPR).

Russian Defence Ministry shows footage of Southern MD tank crews, Ka-52 helicopter crews in combat action, and Western MD healthcare professionals in action within the special military operation.

2023-01-16 20:10:06 On 16 January 2023, Russian airspace control facilities detected an air target over the Baltic Sea that was approaching to the State border of the Russian Federation.

Su-27 fighter from Baltic Fleet's air defence duty force was alerted to identify the air target, and to prevent trespassing on the State border of the Russian Federation.

The Russian fighter crew identified the air target as P-3C Orion patrol airplane of German Navy, and escorted it over the Baltic Sea.

Once the foreign military airplane was turned back from the State border of the Russian Federation, the Russian fighter returned to its airfield.

The trespass on the State border of the Russian Federation has been prevented.

The flight of the Russian fighter was conducted in strict compliance with the rules of using the airspace over international waters without the intersection of air routes or dangerous approaching to foreign aircraft.
