2022-12-21 08:56:15 THE RIGHT TEACHING

Once
, there was a renowned monk who lived in a beautiful monastery with many of his pupils. His teachings were known to be very effective and many of his students grew up to become great masters themselves.

One day, one of them was caught stealing from his fellow-students and they reported him to the monk. But he took no action against the boy.
A few days later the same boy was again caught stealing. And again the head monk did nothing to punish him.

This angered the other students who drew up a petition asking for the dismissal of the thief. They threatened to leave en masse if the boy was allowed to stay in the monastery.
The teacher called a meeting of the students. When they had assembled, he said to them: тАЬYou are good boys who know what is right and what is wrong. If you leave, you will have no trouble in joining some other school. But what about your brother who does not even know the difference between right and wrong? Who will teach him if I donтАЩt? No, I cannot ask him to go even if it means losing all of you.тАЭ

Tears coursed down the cheeks of the boy who had stolen. He never stole again and in later life became renowned for his integrity.

2022-12-20 09:33:21 The starfish

Once
a man was wandering on a deserted beach in a lovely morning. The sun was shining and the sea looked amazing. As he strolled along the beach, he could see a man going back and forth between the surfтАЩs edge and the beach. As he approached the man, he noticed that he was throwing starfishes to the sea. The man noticed hundreds of starfish stranded on the sand brought by the tides.

The man was stuck by the apparent vanity of the task. There were hundreds of starfish on the beach and many of them were sure to perish as the sun grew stronger by the day. But the man continued the task of picking up a starfish one by one and throwing them into the sea.

тАЬI must ask, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?тАЭ he asked as he approached the man throwing the starfish.

The man replied, тАЬThe sun is up and the tide is going out. If I donтАЩt throw them in, theyтАЩll die soon.тАЭ

Observing the frugality of the task, the man said, тАЬ There are thousands of starfish stranded on the beach. There is no way you can throw all of them back to the surf. You canтАЩt possibly make a difference.тАЭ The person looked at the man, stooped down and picked up one more starfish and threw it as far as he could into the ocean. He turned back to the man and replied: тАЬIt surely made a difference to that one!тАЭ

Often we get overwhelmed by the challenges of the world as it seems to be humongous and unconquerable. We may feel like our actions are trivial. But this should not stop us from our attempt to create positive change in the world. We often forget and ignore the impact of our actions on the world. Sometimes even our tiniest act of kindness may be affecting someone in a great way.

Hope these inspirational short stories charged your spirit, helped you to gain a new perspective in your life or at least made you smile.

2022-12-18 07:01:42 THE FALCON AND THE BRANCH

Once a king received two magnificent peregrine falcons as a gift from one of his vassal state. They were the most beautiful birds he has ever seen. Though the Falcons were still quite young at the time, they were beautiful specimens groomed for keeping in his court specifically. The king called the head falconer and handed the two beautiful birds to be trained.
The falconer trained the birds for months. But one day the falconer informed the king that one of the falcons was flying and soaring high in the sky while the other has not moved from its branch since the day it had arrived.
тАЬIтАЩve never come across a bird as stubborn as this before,тАЭ the trainer complained to the king. He went on to describe how the creature ignored, refused and stubbornly lashed out at his every attempt. тАЬMay be there is something wrong with this bird. It just wonтАЩt fly.тАЭsaid the trainer. The falconer was one of the best in the land, his talents widely lauded by all who knew him. So, the king decided to give the trainer some more time to make the bird fly.

Months passed but the falcon never moved from the branch. The kings summoned all healers, sorcerers and other trainers from all the land to make the falcon fly. But none of them succeeded and the bird did not move from its perch.
One day a farmer was passing by the palace and heard about the stubborn falcon who wouldnтАЩt fly. He thought he would give a try to make the bird fly.

Having tried everything else, the king was desperate to make the bird fly, so he allowed the farmer attempt to make the bird fly.

The next morning while the king was thrilled to see the two magnificent birds soaring high in the sky from his balcony.

The king did not witness the feat himself, so he had the farmer brought before him to answer to his questions.

тАЬI would like to know your secret,тАЭ the King said. тАЬTell me, how did you, achieve what the most highly trained, intuitive and wise men could not? How did you make the falcon fly?тАЭ

The farmer peered up from beneath his brow. тАЬIt was actually quite simple, your highness. I just cut the branch on which the bird was perched.тАЭ

We all are made to fly. But at times we we sit on to our branches, clinging to the things familiar to us and never attempting for a change. The possibilities in the world are endless, but most of it remains undiscovered because we never attempt to go beyond our comfort zone. We conform to the familiar, the comfortable, and the mundane. We need to go outside of our comfort zone, destroy the branch of fear we cling to and free ourselves to the glory of flight!
