Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

We can all do our part to keep our seniors safe, especially those who may not know how to seek help or are unaware that they are victims of abuse.

There are various forms of abuse and none of it should be tolerated. Early reporting and help-seeking is important to protect our elderly. If you suspect that an elderly person is being abused, call the National Anti-Violence Helpline at 1800-777-0000. Find out more at: www.msf.gov.sg/breakthesilence

Seeking support early for issues we often face at home prevents problems from snowballing and helps us see things from a different perspective. If you are experiencing marital, divorce or parenting issues and wish to speak to someone, the Community Psychology Hub (CPH) offers free-of-charge live chat (Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm) and email counselling services with anonymous sign-ups. Our counsellors can help you work towards solutions to forge stronger bonds with your family.

This service is a joint initiative by MSF and CPH. Visit www.cphonlinecounselling.sg to find out more.

Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri to all our Muslim friends!

We wish you and your family a peaceful and safe time with your loved ones during this season.

This artwork was designed by our youths from the Singapore Boys’ Home. Art sessions like these allow youths to reflect on the importance of family, which helps to motivate them to persevere in their rehabilitation journeys.

From 19 April, recipients of the COVID-19 Recovery Grant (CRG) can apply for an additional three months of CRG support, if they need further help and continue to meet the criteria.

They may do so in the month when they receive their last CRG payout. For example, if an applicant received CRG for Feb, Mar, and Apr 2021, he/she can apply for a renewal of CRG from Apr 2021 onwards.

We are also pleased to announce that the CRG online application portal - https://go.gov.sg/CRG - is now operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Applications are open till 31 December 2021.

Those who need help completing the online application form can call the ComCare Call hotline (1800-222-0000) or email Ask_SSO@msf.gov.sg. Those who are unable to apply online can visit their nearest Social Service Office (go.gov.sg/ssolocator) for assistance.

Learn more about the CRG and the eligibility criteria here: https://www.msf.gov.sg/assistance/Pages/covid-recovery-grant.aspx

The COVID-19 Recovery Grant (CRG) provides temporary financial support to workers in lower- to middle-income households who are experiencing involuntary job loss, involuntary no-pay leave (NPL) or income loss due to the economic impact of COVID-19.

We’ve received some queries about the CRG, so here are some answers for the top queries. For other queries, please visit: go.gov.sg/msf-crg-faqs

You can also check your eligibility or application status at go.gov.sg/CRG

COVID-19 has shown us the importance of planning ahead in times of uncertainty. With a Lasting Power of Attorney, we are better able to protect the interests of those we care for and make important decisions for them if they lose their mental capacity to do so.

The fee waiver for Lasting Power of Attorney Form 1 applications by Singaporean Citizens has now been extended to 31 March 2023. We hope that this will provide more time for Singaporeans to make your LPA and prepare for your golden years. Visit www.msf.gov.sg/OPG to find out more.

Quadriplegic Fathima Zohra is determined to inspire others to live a normal life by advocating for the disabled and educating the able-bodied about being more inclusive. Adriana Lim, CEO of Arby and co-founder of Mums for Life, started a business to provide employment for the elderly and women from disadvantaged backgrounds. #CelebratingSGWomen https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/community/an-accident-left-her-paralysed-now-this-model-is-fighting-for-the-rights-of-the

In this Year of Celebrating SG Women, we celebrate our women who have left a legacy and made their mark on Singapore’s history. Produced by Singapore Council of Women's Organisations, "Awesome Women of Singapore" is a children’s book featuring the stories of 160 inspirational women from the Singapore Women’s Hall of Fame, who worked hard to achieve their dreams and unlock possibilities for future generations of women and girls.

Inspire your children with their remarkable stories of Elizabeth Choy, Daisy Vaithilingam, President Halimah Yacob and more! Get a copy of the book at https://epigrambookshop.sg/collections/new-releases/products/awesome-women-of-singapore or www.swhf.sg.

Introducing Papilionanthe SG Women, a new orchid hybrid dedicated to the continued progress, contributions and achievements of all SG Women, unveiled by President Halimah Yacob on International Women’s Day today.

The lineage of the Papilionanthe SG Women orchid can be traced back to our national flower, Vanda Miss Joaquim, and has inherited its characteristics of resilience and ability to produce blooms all year-round. It will be on display at the National Orchid Garden from 9 to 12 March.

To show support and gratitude to SG women, several partners have also put together special promotions to commemorate the Year of Celebrating SG Women. Visit go.gov.sg/CelebratingSGWomen to find out more.

Happy International Women’s Day, everyone!
