Route 666, U.S.
US 666 is an infamous road that stretches from north to south in the Four Corners region. It appeared in 1926 as the 6th branch of the famous Route 66.
"Devil's Highway" was notable for its high fatality rate and extremely ridiculous accidents. At first, tales of an unholy force along the route seemed to be just urban legends, but people kept dying.
The police received numerous complaints of strange glowing orbs, faceless fellow travelers who robbed you of your soul, possessed dogs that hunted travelers at dusk, and even of a ghostly killer driver who appeared out of nowhere and rammed cars into unsuspecting victims.
The reports were backed up by the testimony of frightened and injured eyewitnesses who managed to miraculously survive.
In 2003, the ominous route number was changed to "491." But you can still find outdated road signs with three sixes on some parts of the route. There is a belief that there is still evil near them...
