Today 30th August 2022, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i commissioned new generation number plates that will replace the old ones from 1st October 2022.
The digital number plates have been fitted with security features which will prevent loopholes fraudsters and unscrupulous vehicle importers exploit.
"Commissioning of the new generation number plates marks a historic moment in securitizing vehicle registration by eliminating loopholes exploited by financial fraudsters and unscrupulous motor vehicle importers," he said.
The plates are linked to the vehicle chassis number with several inbuilt security features that are easily identifiable to law enforcement and comply with international standards.
The new number plates will begin with the newly registered vehicles from KDK series
Motor vehicle owners will be required to part with Sh3,000 for the new number plates and they have 18 months to replace the old number plates with the new ones.
