Aristotle says that Cnacium is a river and Babyca a bridge where the council of elders used to hold their assemblies, even though there were no halls or structures of any kind there.
It's because Lycurgus [a law giver] thought that these things made no contribution at all towards the process of sound deliberation, and even hindered it by making the minds of the people gathered there for the assembly foolish and vacuous with inane thoughts brought on by gazing at statues and inscriptions, or at the stage in a theatre, or at the over-ornate roof of a council-hall.
