NY Gov Imposes Statewide Indoor Mask Mandate amid Omicron SURGE
New Yorkers will have to wear masks indoors again from December 13 unless the venue already operates a vaccination proof policy, as New York Governor Kathy Hochul pointed the finger at Upstate areas.
"We shouldn't have reached the point where we are confronted with a winter surge, especially with the vaccine at our disposal, and I share many New Yorkers' frustration that we are not past this pandemic yet," she said Friday. "But the rest of the state now has a wakeup call."
Statewide vaccination rates for 18+ citizens is 92.1%, but several Upstate counties have less than half their residents jabbed with rising hospitalization rates.
