Russian Football Official Lays Out Plan To Tackle UEFA & FIFA Bans
Russian Football union official Maxim Mitrofanov has explained the organization has not given up the legal challenge to reinstate the country’s national teams to international football, but admits any action may take months.
In July, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) rejected Russia’s appeal to let its teams compete in European and international competition despite admitting it was “unfortunate” the players had been affected by the decision.
The RFU now plans to take the fight a stage further to the Federal Supreme Court of Switzerland, but can only be lodged when CAS releases its full written decision text.
In a separate action, an appeal against world governing body FIFA’s decision to allow foreign players and staff to suspend their contracts with Russian clubs is at a “preliminary stage”.
