The root cause is in the judicial system. For example the key to using profits to fix pollution is punishing pollution. Not legalizing it through a credit system where polluting is OK over here because we planted some trees over there. That's what Bill Gates has said in one of his videos: "hey I create a lot of pollution but I pay 7 million a year too offset." That is bullshit.

So the solution?? Capitalism can only work if the judicial system works. The alternative is law of the jungle which means the strongest dominate. So there is no civil alternative besides capitalism + judicial integrity.

What does this mean? Companies or people that pollute need to be liable. Our current hybrid-faux capitalist system allows too much "limited liability". Polluting lobbyists are always bribing politicians to change the law so that polluting is forgiven, legalised or liability limited in some way so the tax payers cop the negatives. This needs to change.

The only way this changes is allowing every individual to prosecute criminal matters. At the moment only the States can prosecute criminal matters. This means that lobbyists get to work corrupting the prosecuting channels so that either pollution is legalised or simply not prosecuted.

Allowing individuals to prosecute criminal matters doesn't just fix pollution it fixes a tonne of other problems in society. For example this gets extreme environmentalists their solutions to bankrupt and jail polluting companies. As a result polluters profits will plunge. And this sets the precedent for other people/companies about the consequences for polluting.

In this way the path forward can be summarized as capitalism with judicial integrity. This is a difficult sell because the education system has twisted words and meanings and years of legal sophistication has confused people about the proper judicial process. This should then be the focus of our intellectual position and education regime:
