Contrary to popular belief, not all bees live in large hives, with some living singly or in small groups!
Today, on World Bee Day, we celebrate earth’s vital pollinators, including the solitary Sunda Blue-banded Digger Bee (
Amegilla andrewsi). It buzz pollinates flowers by clinging onto the anthers and vibrating its body at a frequency that allows the flower to release its pollen!
Solitary bees like the Sunda Blue-banded Digger Bee are peaceful and docile, and rarely sting even when disturbed. Nevertheless, keep your distance and do not disturb them.
