This common native is the Common Sendudok (
Melastoma malabathricum), also known as the Singapore Rhododendron!
It produces flowers that are light to dark magenta, or even white. The fruits are edible but tasteless. You might not want to eat them though – the pulp stains your tongue blue-black!
