2021-01-22 07:00:04 2020 was an interesting year for REITs - the largest REIT was created, and more REITs expanded overseas, aggressively. Travel restrictions and stay-home orders also affected various property types. For some, the pain might be brief but for others, it might be a while before they can recover, if at all. Our credit research analyst looks at the four main trends in this space - including the idea that "big gets bigger", with stronger REITs growing significantly.

2021-01-05 13:29:05 Good evening! On the first MoneyFM PrimeTime of 2021, our chief economist, Selena Ling, shares how Singapore's economy contracted 5.8% yoy in 2020. No doubt the worst recession in Singapore recent history, there was a positive surprise as the last quarter of the year contracted less than expected at 3.8% yoy. Catch the podcast where Selena shares what surprised her in 2020 (for instance, how manufacturing remained a silver lining) and her take on government fiscal support.

2020-12-24 04:30:03 As the festive Christmas season rolls around, who's got five golden rings in their stocking stash? That might be an expensive gift, with gold prices hitting an all time high this year. What else is brewing in the commodities space? Economist Howie Lee tells MoneyFM host, Rachel Kelly, what's in store for agriculture (no, the rally hasn't got anything to do with frenzied trips to the supermarket), oil, and precious metals.

2020-12-15 04:00:03 Our latest OCBC Financial Wellness Index survey revealed some hard truths: Singaporeans are not on track to retirement. In fact, 78% of Singaporeans underestimated the amount they would need for their ideal retirement by an average of 32%! Our Executive Director for Investment Strategy, Vasu Menon, sheds some light on the survey results, how Singaporeans can kick start financial planning, as well as how platforms like OCBC's Financial OneView, which shows customer's consolidated financial holdings, and OCBC Life Goals, which helps customers to visualise what they need for their retirement, can help close the gap and increase Singaporeans' financial wellness.

2020-12-04 13:58:08 Tail Risks 2021: Vaccine haves and have-nots. Stepping into 2021, our economist, Wellian Wiranto, shares the potential tail risks presented by vaccine development. On the positive end, if we can find more “sweet spot” vaccines that are not just effective but relatively easy to roll out in many developing countries, we would see a great upsurge in consumer and business confidence. On the flip side, if such vaccines are not readily available, a sharp dichotomy between the (vaccinated) rich world and (unvaccinated) others could have tremendous negative implications on market sentiment towards emerging markets in 2021.
