◆The scheme guarantees one meal to all children in government and aided schools and madarsas supported under Samagra Shiksha

◆Students up to Class VIII are guaranteed one nutritional cooked meal at least 200 days in a year.

◆Under the Ministry of HRD.

◆launched in the year 1995 as the National Programme of Nutritional Support to Primary Education (NP – NSPE), a centrally sponsored scheme. In 2004, the scheme was relaunched as the Mid Day Meal Scheme.

◆The cost of the MDMS is shared between the central and state governments.

Tripitaka: Tripitaka or Three Baskets is a traditional term used for various Buddhist scriptures. It is known as pali Canon in English. The three pitakas are Sutta Pitaka, Vinaya Pitaka and Abhidhamma Pitaka.
Sutta Pitaka: It contains over 10 thousand suttas or sutras related to Buddha and his close companions.This also deals with the first Buddhist council which was held shortly after Buddha’s death, dated by the majority of recent scholars around 400 BC, under the patronage of king Ajatasatru with the monk Mahakasyapa presiding, at Rajgir.
Vinaya Pitaka: The subject matter of Vinay Pitaka is the monastic rules for monks and nuns. It can also be called as Book of Discipline.
Abhidhammapitaka: It deals with the philosophy and doctrine of Buddhism appearing in the suttas.However, it does not contain the systematic philosophical treatises. There are 7 works of Abhidhamma Pitaka which most scholars agree that don’t represent the words of Buddha himself.

• A smog tower is a large-scale air purifier, fitted with multiple layers of filters which trap fine dust particles suspended in the air.

• Air is drawn through fans installed at the top of the tower, passed through filters, and then released near the ground.

• The large-scale filters expected to be installed in the towers in Delhi would use carbon nanofibres as a major component which will be fitted along its peripheries.

• Height of smog towers would be 20 m.

• The 20m (65 ft) high smog tower will trap particulate matter of all sizes suspended in the air.

• Smog tower will focus on reducing particulate matter load.

• The first such tower was erected in 2015, in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

• Smog towers have been experimented with in recent years in cities of Netherlands, China, South Korea and Poland.

• Smog Towers of Delhi would be designed by collaboration between IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, and University of Minnesota.

Effectiveness of Smog Towers

A smog tower can reduce 50% of the particulate matter load in an area of 1 km in the direction of the wind, as well as 200m each along its sides and against the direction of the wind. Open / Comment
