The Internet is 52 years old

Just how much data has been created since its invention in 1969?

One way to answer this question is to consider the sum total of data held by all the big online storage and service companies like Google, Amazon, Microsoft and Facebook. Estimates are that the big four store at least 1,200 petabytes between them. And that figure excludes other big providers like Dropbox, Barracuda and SugarSync. (BBC Science Direct)

To put that number in perspective, let us think of it in terms of episodes of a popular TV series. Storing 1,200 petabytes would mean having 6 billion episodes of ‘Game of Thrones’ stored.
