New Featured Artist: Dual Alter World

We're proud to welcome Dual Alter World aboard as our latest Featured Artist!

https://i.ppy.sh/cd77381909bd78e5a559c30f927b441c0b0000e0/68747470733a2f2f6173736574732e7070792e73682f617274697374732f3131312f6865616465722e6a7067

Featuring the talents of Kotori Koiwai (you might know her best from her roles as Renge Miyauchi from Non Non Byori and Elaine from Seven Deadly Sins) and RYU, the lead guitarist from BLOOD STAIN CHILD and YUZUKINGDOM, Dual Alter World is a brand new metal project with some serious musical and lyrical chops.

We've snagged 10 tracks from their debut album Alter Ego, which we're sure that the rabid metalheads among us will love.

On top of that, the ever-talented Mappers' Guild has created a new showcase set to get the ball rolling with some big name mappers involved, like Nao Tomori, Icekalt, Lasse and pishifat.

Check it all out:

Monthly Beatmapping Contest #9: Results

Don't think it's possible to make a map where each object overlaps another? osu!'s newest Elite Mapper wants to have a word with you.

https://i.ppy.sh/7fc7bf8bb699e438c642bfd1caa37cae39693370/68747470733a2f2f6f73752e7070792e73682f68656c702f77696b692f7368617265642f6e6577732f62616e6e6572732f6d6f6e74686c792d626561746d617070696e672d636f6e746573742e706e67

Results for September's Monthly Beatmapping Contest (MBC) are here! If you're unsure of how any of this works, be sure to read the MBC wiki article. LeaderboardA team of experienced mappers narrowed down 29 entries down to the top 7 finalists seen below. Another group of experienced mappers thoroughly judged the maps and determined the winners!

Rank Beatmap Judging Musical representation (70) Creativity (70) Gameplay (70) Theme (140) Total #1 PUP - See You At Your Funeral by xbopost see details 49 50 43 102 244 #2 PUP - Kids by UndeadCapulet see details 37 35 44 88 204 #3 PUP - Bare Hands by Acylica see details 41 45 41 66 193 #4 PUP - Kids by Arkisol see details 45 44 42 60 191 #5 PUP - Bare Hands by schoolboy see details 45 40 44 62 191 #6 PUP - Bare Hands by Mao see details 41 35 42 72 190 #7 PUP - Bare Hands by Niva see details 40 37 38 60 175

To avoid what was essentially a 5-way tie for 2nd place, "theme" scores from all judges are doubled and final scoring is based on raw totals. The category was initially scored out of 10. Modifying this category was deemed most appropriate because it is the focus of the contest. Winnerxbopost has completely dominated the MBC.

He earned first place in June's contest. He earned first place in July's contest. And while he didn't submit to August's, he earned first place in September's contest by a landslide!

His submission of PUP - See You At Your Funeral shows just how xbopost sets himself apart from the crowd.

While most submissions could be described as "normal maps with lots of overlaps", xbopost's 3.76 star Expert difficulty took a truly unique approach. He legitimately tried to overlap each object with the previous object, throwing away the standard patterns that all other entries utilized, yet still being universally recognized as the most impressive map by both MBC's screeners and judges. It's a gameplay and map design experience that you'll regret missing out on, so give it a play!

Given his MBC track record and his incredible performance this month, xbopost is justified in his new profile badge and the Elite Mapper forum title!

Check out the MBC leaderboards if you're curious about who else might reach these heights soon! Runner-upFor those familiar with UndeadCapulet's mapping, their performance as this month's runner-up should be no surprise.

All of their maps heavily involve overlaps and their submission of PUP - Kids continues the trend! If you're looking for a more difficult overlap-focused map than the winner, you're in the right place!

Having another runner-up position under their belt from February's contest, UndeadCapulet has reached the threshold for the first tier MBC profile badge!

That's it for September's contest! All participants have received a message with comments from the screening crew, so check your inbox if you're curious how your map was received!

Thanks to Pachiru, Akito, Uberzolik, Myxo, Cheri, hypercyte, Nozhomi, Agatsu, Regou, Elayue, newton-, and -Aqua for screening this month's entries, as well as Mazzerin, Cubby, Pentori, Nuvolina, Gero, and Garden for judging this month's finalists!

175 BPM, 4:21 | 8.47★

Not many people would expect a 175 BPM song to support such a high-intensity 8-star map, but Mismagius seamlessly proves that wrong with Bookmaker. This map is over four minutes of cleanly mapped technical cut streams and jump streams, mostly in groups of 2s and 4s. Check this map out if you're looking for a mechanical skill cap test. https://i.ppy.sh/442742e0fe8e8596bf0039a48b53a83382dcf249/68747470733a2f2f6f73752e7070792e73682f68656c702f77696b692f7368617265642f6e6577732f323032302d31302d32392d70726f6a6563742d6c6f7665642d6f63746f6265722d323032302f6f73752f322d73756464656e2d64656174682e6a7067 3R2 - Sudden Death by Settia, Leaf and Tsumia
151 BPM, 1:30 | 6.85★, 6.87★, 6.87★, 7.50★, 7.58★

Settia maps are known for having this really clean and pleasing style to them, and this mapset is no exception, featuring five distinct difficulties that all fall above six stars in difficulty. The song is 151 BPM and the maps feature unique alternating, jump stream, and finger control patterns that provide for a uniquely engaging gameplay experience. Each difficulty is a fun challenge of its own, so I recommend trying them all! https://i.ppy.sh/8e48456cd734fa2e46d6874c7d69e106a5ed6875/68747470733a2f2f6f73752e7070792e73682f68656c702f77696b692f7368617265642f6e6577732f323032302d31302d32392d70726f6a6563742d6c6f7665642d6f63746f6265722d323032302f6f73752f332d626564726f6f6d2d636f6d6d756e6974792e6a7067 glass beach - bedroom community by quantumvortex and Sytho
128 BPM, 5:56 | 9.99★

Something about the number 9 seems to fit well... bedroom community is a super cleanly mapped jump marathon. Having been submitted only four months ago in June, it's gained popularity through scores by the best players. Despite being a relatively unknown mapper compared to many, quantumvortex has stunned the community with this map's quality. It's difficult to make a clean 10 star map—sorry, 9.99 stars if you want to be specific—but this map's 270 BPM jumps are so satisfying. Having been mapped by a fairly experienced touchscreen player, it makes sense that this map has no streams, just jumps as far as the eye can see. The mapset also has a "lower" 8.99 star difficulty, in case any of you want a tamer challenge. With all this talk about the map's high quality, all I can really say now is good luck. https://i.ppy.sh/9dfd5ca64c2c5229dd1e660a455a926ef3c29045/68747470733a2f2f6f73752e7070792e73682f68656c702f77696b692f7368617265642f6e6577732f323032302d31302d32392d70726f6a6563742d6c6f7665642d6f63746f6265722d323032302f6f73752f342d75706c6f61642d796f75722d6d696e642d646f776e6c[...]

New Featured Artist: Sennzai

We're excited to welcome Sennzai aboard as our latest Featured Artist!

https://i.ppy.sh/d8be893301c8844019788ce5b0bc307036269272/68747470733a2f2f6173736574732e7070792e73682f617274697374732f3131302f6865616465722e6a7067

Renowned across the Japanese doujin music scene for her powerful and incredibly versatile voice, Sennzai is a lyricist and vocalist with some serious musical chops. Her voice has featured in games like Deemo, Arcaea, maimai, CHUNITHM, pop'n music and more, and on top of that, she's collaborated with a huge variety of some of Japan's most talented producers, like Blacklolita, Feryquitous, PSYQUI and way, way more.

We're proud to announce that today's release encompasses 20 tracks featuring Sennzai's critically acclaimed vocals from across nearly a dozen doujin artists.

If you were around back during the days where we signed a few music labels on board (such as High Tea Music, Rising Sun Traxx and others), this release will feel similar in terms of the raw, unbridled variety now available - except all of them feature Sennzai's vocal mastery at the front and centre.

Don't expect much of the same thing either - Sennzai's musical versatility is incredible, she sings pretty much everything. Not only that, but we've got a brand new Mappers' Guild showcase map to welcome her aboard, hosted by one of the few contest-winning beatmappers around!

Check out a sample below:

All of the above plus a bunch more are available right now over at Sennzai's Featured Artist listing, pre-timed and ready to go. There's so much variety in her work that you're seriously doing yourself a disservice by not checking it out!

The Featured Artist train chugs along ever onwards, with Sennzai marking the 10th artist added since we crossed our big 100 artist milestone over a month ago with EPICA. We hope you're enjoying the double-time pace, since there's no sign of it slowing down soon!

Keep tabs on all the latest news over at the @osugame Twitter, and we'll see you again on Saturday for another wicked release.

osu! Beatmapping World Championship 2020 Concludes!

After 5 months of intense competition among a total of 32 teams enlisted in this contest, the results are finally out!

https://i.ppy.sh/44d81f63d6c7f1b36e425a73b302693f5750ac65/68747470733a2f2f6f73752e7070792e73682f68656c702f77696b692f7368617265642f6e6577732f62616e6e6572732f627763323032302e6a7067

We're extremely happy to announce the conclusion of the 2020 edition of the osu! Beatmapping World Championship! (o!bwc). This edition was full of surprises and turnarounds that no one in the entire galaxy would have ever expected: from the elimination of the well-known Team France and Team China by the underdog Team Argentina, to the very close battle between Team Russia and Team South Korea, we can affirm that the show has never stopped!

If you wish to get a full rundown of the whole tournament brackets or take a look at the entries, all of those are available on our website.

Take a look at the VOD of the finals right below!

https://i.ppy.sh/8a28fe1dddf657db5fae6fdff333c5d95e779082/68747470733a2f2f6f73752e7070792e73682f68656c702f77696b692f7368617265642f6e6577732f323032302d31302d32322d626561746d617070696e672d776f726c642d6368616d70696f6e736869702d636f6e636c756465732f706f6469756d2e706e67

Congratulations to Team United Kingdom for winning the osu! Beatmapping World Championship 2020!

The competition for Team United Kingdom has been pretty huge, as their scores! All of this started with second place in Qualifiers right below Team France, followed by a 4-1 to Team United States in Round of 16, an insane 7-0 to Team Australia and 5-2 to Team Russia, before winning the championship with their first close score in this contest, 4-3 to Team Argentina.

Once again, congratulations to all team members for winning the osu! Beatmapping World Championship 2020!

Please take a look at their Grand Finals entry over here!

The underdog Team Argentina makes it second among the sea of big teams!

Team Argentina took the most surprising route in this championship, eventually managing to eliminate 3 big countries in a row!

Their journey started on the ninth place of the Qualifiers leaderboards, immediately matching them with Team China in Round of 16. Surprisingly, the outcome of the match was pretty close for Team Argentina, who scraped past Team China with a score of 3-2!

They wanted to show the world that this win against Team China wasn't just a bit of luck, so they performed excellently against the big teams of Team France and Team Brazil, by eliminating them with a 6-1 score, twice in a row!

Unfortunately, their journey came to an end against Team United Kingdom in the Grand Finals by a narrow 3-4 loss, giving the intrepid UK their first close call of the competition in the process.

Please take a look at their Grand Finals entry over here!

Team Brazil takes the bronze medal back home!

After a sudden retirement in 2019, Team Brazil came back in the race with a brand new line-up!

Slow and steady winning the race. This strategy led Brazil to many victories. They started the contest in twelfth place during the Qualifiers, matching them with a fifth place Team Sweden for the Round of 16. They ultimately came out on top with a 3-2 victory, and advanced further on into the tournament.

They valiantly fought for the third place in Finals against Team Russia with a 4-3 score after weaving through a wide array of extremely talented teams in the process - no small feat indeed!

Please take a look at their Finals entry over here!

Team Russia narrowly misses a top three finish!

Despite being fourth overall, Team Russia put in enormous amounts of work every step along the way, fighting tooth and nail for a bronze podium finish that they just barely fell short of. We expect great things from them in the future!
