5 simple steps to achieve 7+ in IELTS writing

• For a start, I'd like to share some general tips about writing.

1. Understand the question. This is one of the most challenging things (I would say) for most candidates. It's like as a result of not understanding the map, choosing the wrong path which leads to a totally different destination. As long as you can't understand the Task 2 question fully, forget about getting more than 6.5 in your writing section. Trust me , it's more than crucial. (I will elaborate on this part later)

2. Good planning. Once you got the question, now it's time to plan what you're going to write. You don't have to think about the topic too much, but spend at least 3-5 minutes to come up with ideas and examples.

3. Keep it simple. I see many students learning a list of "Band 9" vocabulary which they have found from unknown sources or so-called IELTS gurus. I doubt if there are such "Band 9" words. Therefore, keep it simple and use the words you that you already know 100%.

4. Finish both tasks. One factor of being stuck at 6.5 in writing is lack of time management. Many test takers usually start with Task 2 and spend relatively large amount of their time on it, which means that they usually write only introduction and overall of Task 1. WHY? Because, their teachers said so. It's true that your Task 2 accounts for around 70% of your Writing score, but Task 1 should also be completed if you're desiring for 7+.

5. Check and Polish. Once you've finished both tasks, if you still have 4-5 minutes left, look through and check for spelling and grammar mistakes. If you find some better alternatives for some words or could improve your sentence structure, do it on the spot. However, I personally didn't need to do it at the end, because I check it after each paragraph.

Last step is sharing this post with your friends and staying tuned for more:)
