Success in Suffering

Joseph we are told was a “successful man “ now I’m sure that he didn’t always feel successful. Success sometimes comes with a heavy cost! Like suffering!

Joseph was the man that was conspired against by his wicked brothers, Right? Wasn’t He sold by his brothers in Dothan (Genesis 37:16), he was the man that was bought by the Ishmaelite’s! He was the man thought to be dead by his father Jacob, because of the lies that was told by the wicked brothers! Wasn’t Joseph the man that was sold once again to Potiphar! Sound successful?

Notice though as we come to Genesis 39:2 we are told….

Genesis 39:2
[2] The LORD was with Joseph, and he became a successful man, and he was in the house of his Egyptian master.

BUT! wasn’t this man Joesph the same man accused by Potiphar’s wife of rape? Wasn’t this the man that was thrown into prison for false accusations? It says in……

Genesis 39:20
[20] And Joseph’s master took him and put him into the prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined, and he was there in prison.

BUT Notice what it says right after that in verse 21!

Genesis 39:21
[21] But the LORD was with Joseph and showed him steadfast love and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison.

God was with Him!

All that to say this, Success, prosperity, “God’s Favor” comes with a cost and sometimes sufferings ! And more importantly, this is what you need to remember!

You should be chasing after God not success, because without God you would be an unsuccessful Joseph! But with God you can walk through trials of life, be sold, hated, lied about, misrepresented and yet in the Eyes of God be successful!

My encouragement to you friend is to Purse God, not success and in what ever you do, if you are seeking God, you my friend will be successful!
