Alfred the Great (848/849 – 26 October 899) was king of the West Saxons from 871 to c. 886 and king of the Anglo-Saxons from c. 886 to 899

Under Alfred's rule, considerable administrative and military reforms were introduced, prompting lasting change in England.
It is said the Magna Carta is rather a later stone placed upon an Anglo-Saxon legal foundation started by Alfred’s compilation of laws, the Doombook.
King Alfred compiled these laws toward the end of the ninth century.
He consolidated longstanding customs and practices from the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms and added Biblical authority
