2021-09-04 09:38:36 Who received the worst ending?

Alright we all know they messed the final season up badly, nearly every character finished with an subpar ending with the exception of Arya. With that being said, who do you think was shafted the worst? For me it has to be Jaime, he was easily the most compelling character to watch from season 3 onwards and to have him do a complete 180 pissed me off more than anything else.

2021-09-04 07:38:50 Quantify the $$$ damage of Season 7&8?

Going through season 5, this was the hottest show on television. It’s popularity skyrocketed, and season 6&7 were legit cultural phenomena. THEY WERE IN SUPERBOWL ADVERTISING. This was a golden goose, and it was hard to imagine a world NOT filled with spin-offs, residuals from syndication, and merchandising.

Boom-all down the can.

I wonder if it is possible to quantify just how much value was destroyed? Are there any comparables that could model this?

I see three options:
(Positive) a good ending to the series.
(Neutral) series cancelled after season 6 or 7. We were all sad, but can rewatch, continue the story, read the books (hah, holding out hope…)
(Negative) D&D

Anyone want to take a crack at modeling this? I’m guessing the value destroyed is on par with the GDP of a small country, or possibly of some natural disasters that FEMA had to help out with.

2021-09-04 02:38:44 My opinion on Jaime

A comment I made on another sub when this topic was brought up-

He was sleeping with cersei for 7 straight seasons. It was clear he loved her and only went to winterfell to fulfill his promise. It was a toxic relationship but people return to their toxic ex countless times.

His line about not caring for innocents can be interpreted in two ways-

he was lying to tyrion to convince him he was just as bad as cersei

or he maybe did not really care about the innocents. Maybe he only killed mad king to save his father and lied to Brienne to make himself look good. We can see he really cares about what Brienne thinks of him. He has honour but maybe not the selflessness to do something for the greater good rather than himself.

I personally think it is the former but I can see it being the latter.

I know the majority of this sub does not like season 8. Neither did I. But I feel Jaime's arc was understandable even if it was sad.

2021-09-04 01:38:48 So I've been considering a rewatch to enjoy the awesomeness and nostalgia of the first few seasons, but I'm scared for the inevitable downfall. Any thoughts, opinions, advice?

2021-09-04 00:38:28 Lack of characters at the end of the show.

Let’s go back to the start of the show and the earlier seasons, especially for a non book reader at the time I was genuinely stunned at how many good quality characters there were. Not only the major families and houses but characters like Varys, little finger, mance rayder. There was a point in the show where all the kingdoms had intriguing leaders and members. But then you look at that small council meeting, you had Sam who wasn’t even a maester, the other kingdoms had lords who we didn’t even know by that point, Brienne was there for some reason we had a sell sword as lord of high garden and master of coin. I thought this show would never be short of good quality characters but by the end there weren’t many and even those characters who at one point were intriguing they’d become shells of them former selves, Tyrion for example. I fell like I’m venting and might not be making a lot of sense but I thought I’d just spew some shit.
