2022-08-28 15:14:04 Factors Associated with New-Onset Seizures Following Stereotactic Radiosurgery for Newly Diagnosed Brain Metastases
https://www.advancesradonc.org/article/S2452-1094(22)00160-9/fulltext?rss=yes

Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) is a highly effective therapy for newly diagnosed brain metastases. Prophylactic anti-epileptic drugs are no longer routinely used in current SRS practice, owing to a perceived low overall frequency of new-onset seizures and potential side effects of medications. It is nonetheless desirable to prevent unwanted side effects following SRS. Risk factors for new-onset seizures after SRS have not been well established. As such, we aimed to characterize variables associated with increased seizure risk.

2022-08-28 15:13:04 Malignant Mimics of Trigeminal Schwannoma
https://www.advancesradonc.org/article/S2452-1094(22)00162-2/fulltext?rss=yes

: Trigeminal schwannomas are benign tumors arising from the Vth cranial nerve that can be definitively treated with surgery, conventional radiation, or radiosurgery. Suspected schwannomas and other benign tumors of the base of skull are usually diagnosed without histologic confirmation prior to treatment with radiotherapy. Here we report 2 cases of malignant tumors with trigeminal nerve invasion that were misdiagnosed and treated as schwannomas.

https://www.advancesradonc.org/article/S2452-1094(22)00161-0/fulltext?rss=yes

Only 9% of adult Rhabdomyosarcomas (RMS) present with primary disease in the head and neck (HNRMS). Management is often extrapolated from the pediatric experience where prognosis is better but treatment imperatives differ. We report management and outcomes of adult HNRMS treated over 3 decades.

https://www.advancesradonc.org/article/S2452-1094(22)00163-4/fulltext?rss=yes

: While disparities in the inclusion and advancement of women and minorities in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medical fields have been well-documented, less work has focused on medical physics specifically. In this study, we evaluate historical and current diversity within the medical physics workforce, in cohorts representative of professional advancement in the field, and within NIH-funded medical physics research activities.

2022-08-27 02:48:26 The effect of cochlear dose on hearing preservation after low dose stereotactic radiosurgery for vestibular schwannomas: a systematic review
https://www.advancesradonc.org/article/S2452-1094(22)00165-8/fulltext?rss=yes

Despite excellent tumour control after stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) for vestibular schwannoma (VS), the hearing preservation rate remains unsatisfactorily low. Although many factors have been associated with hearing loss, the dose to cochlea has gained more interest in recent years. However, studies investigating the relation between cochlear dose and hearing outcomes have produced inconsistent results. The purpose of this work is to systematically review the literature and critically analyse the studies that investigated the correlation between cochlear dose and hearing loss.
