2022-02-11 11:19:16 How can students inspire their teachers?

Yes, you read it right. How can students inspire their teachers - not the other way round. It's somehow been accepted as the universal truth that it's the teacher who must inspire. The teacher must stand on their head and jump with a tambourine to keep the students motivated, engaged, entertained, productive, et cetera. (The webinars on how to are as abundant as they are successful).

So, when we get a student who doesn't do their homework, who doesn't have any ideas, who doesn't find any texts interesting (but doesn't respond to the request to bring their own texts either) et cetera, we are supposed to make it our life’s mission to find fancy ways to cram knowledge, ideas, and interest into that student. Or, if this doesn’t work, to simply grin and bear it.

What the hell? I'm not inspired! Why do students want to work with inspiring teachers, yet teachers are supposed to want to work with everyone?

You might say any student, even the most bored or disrespectful one, is a paying client. Well, all students are paying clients. But some bring money only, while others bring the same amount of money + satisfaction and results. Given I get so much more from the latter category, why would I want to work with the former? I want to be inspired too.

It takes two to tango. Do you want a dynamic, inspiring, passionate teacher? Be that person too!

2022-02-02 07:36:37 Studies:

Do you work or are you a student?
- Currently, I am a graduate at National University of Uzbekistan. And my major is chemistry.
- I study at school №____ and this is my final year afterwards I am planning to continue to study at a prestigious university abroad.

What subjects are you studying?
- All the related subjects to my specialty which are organic and inorganic chemistry, chemistry of polymers.
- All the related subjects to my specialty which are computer science, math, data base and so on and so forth.
- Pretty much, all the subjects that my school requires me to study some of which are math, history, and foreign languages. (Teachers at our schools are not responsible to their jobs though.)

Why did you choose to study those subjects?
- To be honest/Honestly, studying chemistry was recommended by my parents since they had wanted me to become a science related person. All I did was to follow their advice and I think I have little regret about my decision.
- Naturally, it wasn’t I who chose the subjects we study at school since they are standardized school curriculum.

What do you like about your studies?
- I like the atmosphere – the comfortable atmosphere around my friends, I like that I am being taught by qualified and experienced teachers, I like our class room which has become my second home, I also like the football pitch, corridors, lecture room… I guess I like pretty much everything related to my studies.

What do you dislike about your studies?
- Like I said, there are few things that are not to my liking. However, I really don’t like that schools/universities require uniforms which is, in my mind, an unnecessary compulsory rule.
- Like I said, my major includes doing some laboratory work when we have to deal with various chemical matters some of which might badly affect my skin in case of touch.

The Hook

The opening sentence of any essay is called the hook. A hook in writing is used to engage the readers in the subject and keep their attention throughout the essay. Think about the hook while you read the next essay. You will learn more about the hook later in this unit.

“Lest” is a conjunction. It connotes that something should not happen because the consequence is unpleasant or to be feared, adjusting the verb from the subjunctive mood.

For instance:

► Put on your jacket lest you catch the cold.
► She really worked hard lest she fail.
► Clean the floor properly lest the children fall over.
► Put your tools aside lest the children fall over them.

“Lest” is not normally used in current American English. Speaker will use “so that ....... not” or “so ....... not” instead :

► Put your tools aside so (that) the children don't trip over them.
