21 Days Fasting and Prayers

Fasting and prayers began yesterday. Usually, the first 2-3 days are the hardest. Many things will be fighting to distract you and your cravings for food will suddenly be heightened. So, fear not, draw strength from the Lord and refuse to give in!

Please, take note of the following:

1. Stay mentally and physically focused during the fast. You can cut down on food intakes and change your diet (e.g. eating only vegetables or fruits when you break) to control your cravings for food. Also reduce intake of strong beverages like coffee, tea and coke.

2. Spend time you will normally use for meals to pray and seek the Lord. Keep a journal on what the Lord says and shows you during the fast.

3. Stay hydrated - Mild dehydration can lead to fatigue, dry mouth, thirst and headaches. It is vital to drink enough fluids during a fast.

4. Spend time in meditation - One way to avoid unintentionally breaking your fast is to keep yourself busy. Reading the Bible, walking and meditation can help distract you from hunger and keep you busy without using up too much energy.

5. Stop fasting if you feel unwell - If you do become ill or are concerned about your health, make sure you stop fasting right away. Please do seek medical advice before joining the fast if you have existing medical conditions.

6. If you intend to go beyond the daily fast, ensure you inform any of the Pastors of your decision. We do not encourage the kind of fasting that abstains from all liquids without specific confirmation from the Lord through your church leadership or spiritual parents.

7. Married couples in a fast - sexual intimacy during fasting is allowed when you break your fast. Couples can decide (in agreement by both parties) to totally abstain till the 21days are over. However, this must be agreed by BOTH parties. It MUST NOT be forced by one person on the other. As long as you can break to eat food, you can also be sexually intimate. Couples should find time to pray together, share scriptures and meditate together during the fast.

8. Prepare for opposition - During the fast, free food will suddenly be available everywhere you go. Your spouse (or mum) will suddenly be inspired to cook your favourite meal. PRESS THROUGH. Many times you may feel tension build at home. Satan tempted Jesus on His fast and we must expect the same. Discouragement may come as a flood but recognize the source and take your stand on the victory of Christ.

9. Don't listen to the devil - Breakthroughs often come after a fast. Do not listen to the lie that nothing is happening and you're just wasting time, effort and energy. It is our conviction that every fast done in faith will be rewarded.

10. Don't miss the assembly of God's people - As much as you can, do your best to be part of the corporate praying 4pm at the Tent every day. This should not replace your personal time with the Lord during the fast It should complement and help stir you to seek God in private.

11. Don't break your fast with a feast - Doing so could leave you feeling bloated and tired; making it difficult to maintain private spiritual disciplines in the.season of the fast.

12. If you have questions/concerns or desire clarity regarding the fast, do reach out to your cell leaders or any of the Pastors.

The Lord will surely do us good in this season and through out this year in Jesus name!

You're blessed of the Lord!
