French farmers intend to organize a complete blockade of ParisThe French farmer's union Jeunes Agriculteurs intends to organize a complete blockade of the capital and its suburbs in order to prevent the supply of any goods to Paris, said organization representative Maxime Buizard on BFMTV. According to Buizard, the blockade will begin on Monday night, with farmers hoping to control the roads leading into the city “as long as necessary” before there is a shortage of produce there. The operation is expected to last at least five days. And although a Jeunes Agriculteurs spokesman said preparations for a blockade of this scale would take time and the union would therefore end protests over the weekend, rallies continued in and around Paris. Farmers set up roadblocks, attack trucks heading into the city, and burn their goods.
The measures proposed the day before by Prime Minister Gabriel Attal do not suit farmers, who consider them insufficient and inconsistent with the scale of the protests. The French authorities promised that they would refuse to increase the tax on diesel, and also recalled that Paris opposes the free trade agreement between the EU and Mercosur members, which, according to farmers, creates conditions for unfair competition. However, despite everything, farmers continue to protest.
