Another beautiful baby born in total peace.

Another beautiful baby born at home, received by his mother, and given all the space to come into his body without being assaulted.

Another beautiful baby born without any assessments, examinations, measurements, time-keeping, or quantification.

Another beautiful baby whose coming-into-being defied all the guidelines of medical midwifery and industrial obstetrics.

Another beautiful baby whose divine timeline was honoured fully. Seeing his initial aliveness, instead of forcing, rushing, or insisting, we waited, holding space until he chose to breathe, knowing that embodiment requires patience.

Another beautiful baby born peacefully at home whose arrival would absolutely have resulted in the invocation of an “emergency” situation; who would have been vigorously “rubbed” by a midwife (to “get him going”) whose nostrils and throat would have been violated by a bulb syringe (to “clear” the fluids that he was already in the process of releasing simply by gurgling and puking a little bit, as is the brilliant design), who would likely have been assaulted by resuscitation efforts by an industrial midwife or given oxygen.

Another beautiful baby who, had he been born in the hospital, would almost undoubtably been taken away from his mother for “observation.”

I’m good at this because I know what *not* to do, when *not* to act, when *not* to speak.

I know my place, I know what true responsibility is, and I know what normal birth looks like.

I’m good at this because I know that my presence is unnecessary.

I don’t have the power to save mothers or babies.

I only have the power to choose not to destroy their births.

Understanding birth has almost nothing to do with comprehending the cardinal movements, flexion, extension, and rotation, or any of the other bio-mechanics of the process, and everything to do with reading energy and the rhythms of birth, knowing one’s role, deep respect, and true devotion to the genius of life and death. The article almost gives the impression the mother died at home (“ob gave me the green light to go home and give birth”) but apparently this mother actually died in the hospital. This is a war on babies, stated N. Wolf, in a recent interview.

It’s a w@r on mothers and motherhood.

It’s a w@r on humanity.

I’ve had to pull back from heavy political engagement for the most part lately—not only for the sake of my sanity, but because my perspective has changed on all of this (life in general).

I’m delving a back in a little bit, here and there, and I’ve been looking at Wolf’s recent work, finally.

I’ve been following her career on and off throughout the years since the Beauty Myth, and I appreciate what she’s doing these days.

I don’t necessarily agree with some of her assumptions, or the assumptions made within the framework of the methodology she’s using—I don’t respect the foundational premises, obviously.

But the conclusion is self-evident, and I respect that Wolf is making a sincere attempt. (And yes, the most effective form of “controlled opposition” comes from those who have no idea their opposition is controlled).
