Oral leukoplakia
It appears as white patches that can't be rubbed out, it may appear on the lip, gingiva, buccal mucosa and sometimes on the tongue. Doctors don't know exactly their cause but smoking is considered the main cause. Oral leukoplakia is usually painless but it can hurt upon contact with acids or hot food. Finally, the main concern and worrisome about this lesion that it has high tendency for malignant transformation especially lesions which are speckled with red patches.
Prophylaxis : -Avoid smoking -Avoid alcohol as it's considered a risk factor for oral leukoplakia and oral cancer in general. - A diet rich in vegetables and fruits will help in prophylaxis against leukoplakia and oral cancer.
