Sweden’s Ministry of Defense has announced the commencement of the Aurora-23 international military exercises involving NATO member countries. The activities, set to be the most significant military maneuvers on Swedish soil in the last quarter-century, aim to counter potential armed attacks on the country. Involving land, navy, and air forces, the drills will test the combat readiness and interoperability of the participating nations.
A total of 26,000 soldiers from Austria, England, Germany, Denmark, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, the United States, Ukraine, France, Finland, Sweden, and Estonia will take part in the exercises. The primary operations are planned for the border areas of southern and northern Sweden, as well as on the island of Gotland. The Aurora-23 maneuvers are scheduled to conclude on May 11.
