STUDY: Even if you Press ‘Mute,’ Zoom & Other Apps Are Listening to YOU
Researchers have found that audio is still being transmitted to some apps’ servers either continuously or periodically when the mute function is selected.
Zoom, Slack, MS Teams/Skype, Google Meet, Cisco Webex, BlueJeans, WhereBy, GoToMeeting, Jitsi Meet, and Discord are just some of the services that may be eavesdropping.
And it gets worse, the researchers discovered it's possible to use the data to decipher what the user is doing 82% of the time, be that typing or cooking.
