Scientists Say Life on Earth Began Way BEFORE We ThoughtA mysterious, complex plant-like structure has been found inside a fist-sized rock in Canada, estimated to be between 3.75 and 4.28 billion years old.
Once a part of the seafloor, it contained a stem with parallel branches on one side which are nearly a centimeter (half-inch) long.
The discovery means “life could have begun as little as 300 million years after Earth formed. In geological terms, this is quick – about one spin of the Sun around the galaxy,” the lead author of the study said.
Wonder if gas prices were less than $4 a gallon 300 million years ago…
