1710 – 311 years ago was founded Tsarskoe Selo, the town containing a former residence of the Russian imperial family and visiting nobility, located 24 kilometers (15 mi) south from the center of Saint Petersburg.
1901 – The first exhibition of 19-year-old Barcelona artist Pablo Ruiz Picasso was opened in Paris.
1945 – on the Red Square, Moscow, took place a Victory Parade to commemorate the victory of the Soviet Union over Nazi Germany in the Great Patriotic War (WWII).
1961 – the first flight of the V-8 prototype of the legendary MI-8 gas turbine helicopter took place.
