Germany/Poland Border at Risk of COLLAPSE Amid “Explosive” Surge of Migrants from Belarus (Report)
The German Federal Police Union, which represents the country’s border guards, has urged the govt to put up controls on its frontier with Poland to stem the rising number of migrants seeking entry via Belarus.
Some 5,000 migrants have been detained in Germany in recent months, including 500 over the past weekend alone. Heiko Teggatz, head of the union, warned, “The number of [illegal entries] detected has been rising almost explosively for months,” in a letter to the German interior minister. (Bild)
The union said it was concerned about the prospect of a repeat of the 2015 refugee crisis, when more than 800,000 arrivals overwhelmed the German asylum system.
Since July, Belarus has offered visa-free entry to people from more than 70 countries, including the most troubled war zones in the Middle East.
