UK hackers target healthcare and Covid vaccine orgs
The UK suffered an all-time high 777 reports of cyber-attacks between August 2020 and September 2021, 20% of which were targeted at the healthcare and vaccine sectors.
The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) labelled the rising focus on health institutions “the most immediate cyber security threat to UK business”, and follow GCHQ claims last month that state-backed criminal groups are exploiting the pandemic to target vaccine info.
The University of Oxford, which helped develop the AstraZeneca vaccine, managed to thwart a cyber-attack, while the public have reported over 50,000 cyber scams in the period.
