Slovakia mulling three-week Covid lockdown to stem rise in infections

Bratislava is actively considering a potential full lockdown to stem the rise of fresh Covid-19 infections, similar to the one introduced in neighboring Austria, PM Eduard Heger’s office said Monday.

Heger said he was in favor of mandatory vaccination for people over 50, but said he would follow the guidance of experts here also. “I am convinced today that there is no other way than vaccines if we do not want to have repeated waves and lockdowns,” he said.

Neighboring Austria entered a 10-day national lockdown affecting all citizens on Monday as cases of the virus soared, with Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg apologizing to vaccinated citizens for taking the “drastic step.”

PunJab National Bank Denies Mass Hack that 'Exposed' 180MN Customers' Financial Data

Considered one of India's 'Big Four' financial institutions, the Punjab National Bank has played down a security firm's allegations it exposed the personal data of 180 MILLION customers. It did, however, admit its Exchange Server implementation wasn't in tip-top shape.

The allegation was made by CyberX9, which on Sunday blogged that it'd discovered an unpatched vulnerability in the bank's systems to gain admin-level access on an internal server.

It's claimed an attacker could "remotely execute any code... steal data, make transactions, [and] get complete control of such connected computer systems."

"Pipelines Will Blow Up!" Extinction Rebellion Warning to World Leaders

The "reckless" statement from ER organizer David Suzuki - considered the godfather of Canada's environmental movement - was apparently a warning to politicians if they don't reverse climate change.

“We’re in deep, deep doo-doo,” said Suzuki at an Extinction Rebellion protest on Vancouver Island. “The next stage after this, there are going to be pipelines blown up if our leaders don’t pay attention to what’s going on.”

Later asked whether or not Suzuki would support the bombing of pipelines, he said, “Of course not.” Instead the organizer blamed the authorities for violent actions against protesters.

Just letting off some steam then.

Meet the Chinese billionaire bailing out Evergrande for $1 BILLION

Hui Ka Yan has tapped into his personal wealth and raised $1 billion for the deeply indebted property developer China Evergrande Group, according to state-affiliated news site Yicai.

Yan reportedly injected more than $1.1 billion in cash to help Evergrande improve liquidity and sustain day-to-day operations. His luxury properties in Hong Kong are already down as collateral, while his assets such as a superyacht and custom-VIP plane are in creditors' sights.

The billionaire is believed to be under govt pressure to make good on Evergrande’s financial obligations, and avoid being held personally culpable. Forbes estimates that Hui still has a net worth of $10.7 billion.

House Jan. 6 panel subpoenas Alex Jones and Roger Stone

The committee investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection issued subpoenas to 5 more individuals Monday, including Trump ally Roger Stone and Alex Jones, court documents say.

The subpoenas include demands for documents and testimony from Stone and Jones as well as three people accused of organizing and promoting two rallies that took place on Jan. 6 before the riot.

"The Select Committee is seeking information about the rallies and subsequent march to the Capitol that escalated into a violent mob attacking the Capitol and threatening our democracy," said Mississippi Rep. Bennie Thompson, the Democratic chairman of the panel.

THANKSGIVING THREAT ACTORS: US govt warns of increased chance of ransomware attacks during holiday season

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure agency and the FBI warned public and private sector organisations not to let their guard down to ransomware attacks during the holiday season (BleepingComputer)

The federal agencies issued a warning Monday stating “based on observations on the timing of high impact ransomware attacks that have occurred previously rather than a reaction to specific threat reporting.”

The agencies provided a list of mitigations, including the need to set up an IT security team ready to react to ransomware attacks even outside regular office hours.

Western Tech Giants Have 5 Weeks to Open Branches in Russia Before Sanctions Applied - Regulator

A total of 13 foreign tech companies, including Google and Apple, must open branches or legal entities in Russia before the year’s end in order to continue to operate advertising in the country, Moscow's regulator said on Monday.

The internet giants, including Twitter and Mark Zuckerberg’s newly created Meta Platforms, Inc., have about a month to comply with the requirements of a new Russian law demanding they establish a formal communication link with authorities and create a feedback form specifically for local users.

Companies obliged to follow the new rules include Swedish-based audio streaming platform Spotify and popular Chinese video-sharing app TikTok, as well as several platforms like Zoom, Discord, and Telegram in addition to the American firms.

US state suggests vegan Thanksgiving as inflation soars

A St. Louis Federal Reserve has caused outrage by boldly recommending Americans choose a cheaper “soy-bean based dinner” for Thanksgiving amid soaring inflation rates.

In a recent blog post, the Missouri-based federal bank compared and contrasted the prices of poultry to soybeans, the main ingredient for tofu, which some vegans use to make tofurkey as a Thanksgiving replacement.

So-ya going be thankful for tofu this year?
