Looking at the engravings, there's no doubt that this is electricity. And the light is not coming from individual candles, but from the entire structure as a whole, in places with the highest concentration of electric field. The incandescent lamp was invented only at the end of the 19th century (1878), but what was lit in the 18th century is incomprehensible.
