Localization is one of the most important AV task. Traditional ways are GNSS+RTK, inertial tracking, odometry, and lidar-based localization. The MIT research lab has proposed new all-weather way. They achieve centimetre accuracy by detecting underground objects using special geo-radar (stones, caves, cables, tubes etc.).
