-JAMUS LIM-

Yesterday, I partook in a seasonal tradition for town council operations first started by our ex-#workersparty chief Mr Low Thia Khiang: to walk our constituency in its entirety, pointing out issues that could be rectified in an estate-level “spring cleaning.”

For me, that meant walking through every single cluster in #Anchorvale over the course of the day, alongside the dedicated property and horticulture officers, and sharing various conservancy and maintenance concerns, potential improvement ideas, and (of course) war stories of our favorite spots in the estate, and why.

Due to the surge of pre-Chinese New Year trash, we also had to organize strategies for dealing with bulky items (which had moved to daily collection since a week ago), recycling (instructing our cleaners to separate out styrofoam from blue bins, since the truck would not pick up from bins stuffed with the material), and even construction debris (which contractors are supposed to dispose of themselves, but this isn’t always the case).

In certain blocks were we’ve observed consistent increases in recyclable and disposable waste—perhaps as residents have taken to shopping more online, or conducting home-based distribution businesses (which may or may not be allowed under the Home-Based Small Business Scheme; this is to be investigated)—and have proactively taken measures to increase the bin counts. I’ve certainly learned more about refuse disposal over past few months than I ever thought I would! We did take a lunchtime break, where I took the opportunity to get to know the town council team better, and to thank them for their dedication and continued hard work during our ongoing takeover and formation process.
