-NICOLE SEAH-

Last Sunday’s food distribution saw a powerful collaboration between the WP East Coast team, The WP Community Fund, Willing Hearts and an extremely resourceful donor, alongside an army of enthusiastic and compassionate volunteers.

We started off the early morning by arranging free haircuts for elderly residents in East Coast GRC. The turnout was deeply encouraging and we received walk-in enquiries for when the next round will be! It was meaningful to observe the elderly residents looking and feeling fresher after getting a new hairdo and makeover.

Following that, we had door-to-door delivery of food rations, dates for Muslim families, and pillow distribution to 150 households. Non-perishables are something that we are looking to provide more of in 2022. This was personally illuminating when I helped a bedridden resident with COPD prop up his new pillow and noticed that the old one was completely flattened and worn out. He had a huge smile on his face and said that he could feel the difference and the new pillow provided more support. When some households have to live on less, non-perishables are usually last on the priority list.

This will probably be my last outreach for a while as I will be going on maternity leave soon! The WP EC team is still going strong and the outreach will continue on our regular weekly basis.
