Returned to Compassvale in Sengkang GRC on this beautifully cool evening to visit residents living at Compassvale Street. Spoke to a cat-lover who was riding by to feed this beautiful “Sengkang Special” who has made Compassvale home. A doff of the hat to these great community partners who pick up the leftover food after the community cats have had their fill. At the end, a little give and take is the magic ingredient in making our homes and precincts special. Like all things in life, some consideration between residents goes a long long way, and glad to this spirit in Sengkang.
Housevisits saw a mix of both local and national issues that were well-received. The local feedback will be channeled to the Sengkang Town Council team while the national issues will be looked into by the MPs.
In March this year, I spoke in Parliament about HDB Priority Schemes for the purchase of new BTO flats (see link below) and identified married couples with children and newly married couples as one group who could be considered for greater priority in HDB flat allocation. Some days ago, HDB announced that more newly constructed flats will be allocated to families and singles applying for the first time, in view of strong housing demand from this group and to increase their chances of securing their first homes.
On the resale front, housevisits today reinforced concerns from many younger Singaporeans and their parents about the upward trajectory of HDB resale flats prices - the logical next option when you can’t get your BTO flat of choice. HDB prices continue to be an area the WP MPs will be monitoring closely.
