Did you know that the former House of Tan Teng Niah that was constructed in 1900 is the only Chinese villa that was preserved during the redevelopment of #LittleIndia?

It embodies an often overlooked story of the days when small Chinese industries operated alongside the cattle and rattan businesses at Little India. Tan Teng Niah was a towkay (Chinese businessman of good standing) who owned several sweet-making factories along Serangoon Road that used sugarcane to produce sweets.

Meet Gwendolyn Ong. After her family's pivotal move from Pasir Ris to Perth when she was 10, she had to quickly learn to suppress her Singaporean-ness and Chinese-ness to fit in at school.

Now based in Melbourne, she has followed in her dad's entrepreneurial footsteps, cofounding wine delivery service @joinwinebox and product studio @cultivateideas, which guides innovators through rapid experimentation to identify the right product to launch

Gwen shares her journey of coming into her own as a young adult, which has helped her to embrace her Singaporean roots, be proud of her heritage, and shed fears of others' opinions.
