The animal shelter was pure chaos yesterday. They took in over 400 dogs last weekend, and they've waived their adoption fees indefinitely to help with the overflow.
Little Chili was in a kennel all by himself. Despite the cacophony of nearly every other dog in there barking at the same time, he was silent and sitting calmly.
We really like pit mixes, and despite the bad reputation that pits have, we haven't had a bad experience with either Pepper or any of the pits we've met. So we knew going in we were looking for a pit mix.
We rode back with him from the shelter in my husband's truck. I sat in the back with Chili. He was nervous and trembled a bit, but he warmed up to me, and by the time we got back to the house he was snuggled up under my arm.

We also think he probably belonged to someone at some point, although he was picked up as a stray. He already knows "sit" and he seems to be potty trained.
He's chipped now, so if he gets out we'll get a call.

And he's still undernourished, but we'll fix that. He's been here less than 24 hours and seems a bit wary, and Pepper was a little jealous last night, but I think they're a good match.
