"It’s symbolic that Gorbachev who contributed to the dissolution of the USSR—for which he’s been widely hated by Russians—passed away at a time when Russia is resurgent."

"In a 1991 referendum, the majority voted to keep the USSR. But the Gorbachev government ignored the will of the people. This is one of the reasons why many felt betrayed."

**Comment from a Russian friend:

"Gorbachev demilitarized the Soviet Union. He let Americans inside all secret Russian facilities, Americans obtained all documentation, all military designs, he withdrew all soviet troops from Eastern Europe and Afghanistan, although the leaders of those countries were begging not to, because that would bring NATO troops in (and so it did).

So he gave away all industrial documents, all plants and factories, just opened the doors - take it.
He introduced alcohol ban, which led to black market of surrogate alcohol. It has become a real national issue, poisoning with toxic compounds, people were literally dying.

He opened drug traffic from Afghanistan after withdrawal of the troops.

He gave away the country and he didn't stop American stooges Yeltsin, Kravchuk and Shushkevich from signing the deal on dissolution of the USSR. All KGB generals and officials were begging Gorbachev to stop them, he was still the head of the country, they begged to let the troops in Moscow and get power in their hands. 90% of the population voted FOR the USSR. But Gorbachev wasn't a Russian president, he was an agent of the USA, that's why he did what he was supposed to do - let the collapse happen.

A lot of things happened because of him. Dozens of millions of people were left in a strange country, and what happened after !!!!! How Russians were made to flee from those former soviet republics. How they were made to sell their houses for nothing, it was awful.

So, not a single kind word from the real people..."

"He taught Russia an invaluable lesson - not to believe the West! ...at the cost of your soul. It is the will of the gods to know."

"God forbid the Russian people will not forget his abominations and will be smarter in the future, especially the younger generation, so that this will never happen again."

"I wish he had lived to see the tribunal."
