Another country may block Telegram

The next country after Germany, which is considering measures to force the messenger to cooperate, was Brazil. The Valor Economico newspaper cites sources in the country's Higher Electoral Court (TSE) as fearing that Telegram could be used to mass-spread false news and disinformation ahead of elections.

In this regard, the head of TSE sent several letters to Pavel Durov, but did not receive a response to any of them.

In these letters, the TSE proposed to hold a meeting with the Telegram administration and discuss possible measures aimed at ensuring the security of the upcoming elections.

Similar agreements already exist with the online platforms Twitter, Facebook and WhatsApp. After TSE returns from vacation in February 2022, the head of the body plans to discuss the situation around Telegram with colleagues in order to determine "possible measures".
