Cut down
1. Cut down Consume less/ Cut back on or Cut down on is usually used when you reduce something from
your diet. For example, you might cut down on the amount of meat you eat, or you might cut down on the number of cigarettes you smoke.
Examples:
I'm trying to cut down the amount of coffee I drink during the day.
I've spent far too much money this month. I really must cut down.
2. Cut down Reduce a vertical thing to ground level by cutting.
For example: The logger CUT the tree DOWN.
