Put something out
This means to make something stop burning. To put out a fire, to put out a cigarette, etc.
Examples:
In the Amazon, it doesn't look like anyone is making an effort to put the wildfire out. To stop it from burning, extremely sad situation.
Finally, the fire was put out and the house was saved.
There are many other meanings of this phrasal verb but I wanted to focus on this one!
