Fire in the Blоckchain.cоm data center stopped the exchange for a long time
The online cryptocurrency wallet Blоckchain.cоm crashed due to which the users of the service could not pass authorization for 5 hours.
On the evening of March 9, at about 18:20 Moscow time, Blоckchain.cоm technical specialists confirmed the problem with access via the API and through the web interface and reported that they are working on fixing it.
The administration of the resource urged users to stay calm and not use the help of persons not associated with blоckhain.cоm, who are supposedly ready to fix the problem, and also recommended not to use third-party links (to protect against phishing). Access to users' personal wallets was restored at approximately 4PM (23:00 Moscow time).
Judging by the information page, which publishes full information about the development of the situation, the blockchain observer and the Blоckchain.cоm exchange are fully functional, while the status of the wallet indicated "Serious failure". Also, a large number of errors were revealed in the service API.
Casa CTO Jameson Lopp commented on the situation on Twitter. He wrote that after the Blоckchain.cоm wallet went offline, the number of transactions on the Bitcoin network dropped sharply by 30-40%. This decrease may indicate that such a percentage of new transactions in Bitcoin are accounted for by Blоckchain.cоm users.
