Difficult behaviours in children and teenagers are usually indicative of a sense of being overwhelmed and also unmet needs that they do not possess the mental or emotional capacity to verbalise and deal with.
When we read their behaviours this way, it puts us in a better stead to extend patience and love in the situation and bring them back to a state of calm, where we can help them learn how to address those needs properly in the moment and for the future.
But if all that we see is a difficult child before us and that this is the umpteenth time that this difficult situation is before us, the outcome might turn out quite differently.
