Japanese food maker Kirin has teamed up with researchers at Meiji University to develop chopsticks that add a salty taste to food.

At the end of one of the sticks there is a metal contact that transmits an electric current directly into the food: a wave of the desired shape affects the ions in sodium chloride, which is responsible for the salty taste. In addition, the current also affects monosodium glutamate ions, which is responsible for enhancing the taste.

Tests on volunteers have shown that such electrical stimulation enhances the salty taste by almost 1.5 times. Thus, you can reduce the amount of salt by 30% and not feel any difference. The researchers assure that the current from the sticks does not affect the human body in any way, because it is too weak.
