Microsoft Office 365, Outlook down again

Some days it doesn't pay to get out of bed. Beginning at about 2:15 PM Eastern time, #Microsoft's #Office365 services and Outlook started going down for users. Within minutes, users throughout the United States were unable to use their vital services.

If this sounds familiar, it should. We just went through a major, six-hour Office 365 outage in the last week of September. Another such failure, impacting primarily Outlook and Exchange, users hit on October 1st.

Microsoft officially acknowledges the rollout of Outlook Spaces

Earlier this year, we reported that #Microsoft is working on a new collaboration tool within Outlook to help teams with project management. Codenamed #ProjectMoca, this new service can simplify your workflow. You can add tasks, goals, notes, files from OneDrive and other cloud storage providers, links, contacts, and even emails and events, all into one single dynamic space.

Project Moca is now available for #Microsoft365 consumer subscribers, EDU customers, and select commercial customers as a preview and is shipped off-by-default. You can check it out by visiting Outlook web experience.

Cloudflare DNS goes down, taking a large piece of the internet with it

Many major websites and services were unreachable for a period Friday afternoon due to issues at Cloudflare’s 1.1.1.1 DNS service. The outage seems to have started at about 2:15 Pacific time and lasted for about 25 minutes before connections began to be restored. Google DNS may also have been affected.

Windows 10 now lets you know if May 2020 Update is blocked

Windows 10 version 2004, also known as the May 2020 Update, recently started rolling out to mainstream users who manually check for updates through the Settings app. While May 2020 Update is available, that doesn’t mean all devices including Microsoft Surface will be able to download it.

Microsoft says that the feature update is being rolled out in stages and it won’t show up for everyone. This is because some devices don’t have the drivers necessary to upgrade to May 2020 Update.

Starting May 29, 2020, Microsoft has started notifying users when they can’t upgrade their system to Windows 10 version 2004, which was released to consumers on May 27, 2020.

Next-gen supercomputers are fast-tracking treatments for the coronavirus in a race against time

Scientists are using #IBM’s Summit, the world’s fastest supercomputer, to help find promising candidate drugs to fight the #CoronaVirus epidemic.
Using the computer’s muscle, researchers digitally simulated how 8,000 different molecules would interact with the virus.
The project was able to identify 77 candidate molecules that other researchers can now test in trials.
Supercomputing is also being used to tackle other major global issues, such as climate change.
