"Music was my Plan G," says Scott Mescudi, actor and the Grammy-winning rapper known as Kid Cudi. "It wasn't like I didn't try everything else. I tried everything else." Returning to his high school, he explains how he found success as an artist through a combination of hard work, determination and blocking out the haters. "There's no difference from me and you. I just really wanted this s***. And I wanted it bad."

The speaker:

Julia Galef examines the motivations behind these two mindsets and how they shape the way we interpret information, interweaved with a compelling history lesson from 19th-century France. When your steadfast opinions are tested, Galef asks: "What do you most yearn for? Do you yearn to defend your own beliefs or do you yearn to see the world as clearly as you possibly can?"
